Customs Clearance in Dubai & UAE Customs Brokerage

Customs is where many shipments slow down, often because of a small error in a document or a tariff code. Our customs clearance service in Dubai handles the declarations, duties and permits for goods entering or leaving the UAE, so your cargo is released quickly and you stay on the right side of the rules.

The service is designed for importers, exporters and re-exporters of every size, from a company bringing in its first container to established traders who clear shipments every week through Dubai's seaports, airports, land borders and free zones.

What our customs brokerage covers

  • Import clearance for goods arriving by sea, air or road, including duty and VAT calculation and payment.
  • Export and re-export declarations for goods leaving the UAE, including re-exports from free zones.
  • Transit and free zone movements, so goods can move between zones or through the UAE with duty suspended.
  • HS code classification, to make sure the right duty rate and rules apply to each product.
  • Permits and approvals from the relevant authorities for controlled goods such as food, cosmetics, medicines, chemicals and telecom equipment.
  • Certificates of origin and document legalisation where your buyer or destination requires it.
  • Temporary admission for exhibitions, events and equipment that will leave the country again.
  • Duty refunds and deposits, including claims when imported goods are later re-exported.

How customs clearance works

  1. Document review. Send us the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or air waybill and any certificates. We check them before the goods arrive.
  2. Classification and valuation. We confirm HS codes and the customs value, and calculate duties and taxes so you know the cost in advance.
  3. Permits. If your goods need approvals, we tell you which ones and help apply for them in good time.
  4. Declaration. We submit the customs declaration electronically through the Dubai Customs system. [PLACEHOLDER: customs broker licence or client code]
  5. Inspection support. If customs selects your shipment for inspection, we coordinate it and answer any questions on your behalf.
  6. Release and delivery. Once duties are paid and the goods are released, we arrange collection and delivery to your premises.

Why choose Global Logistic Group as your customs broker

Customs mistakes are expensive. Wrong classifications can lead to underpaid duty and penalties, while missing permits can leave goods stuck in port storage. We prevent these problems by checking every file before submission and by explaining clearly what you need to provide.

  • Accuracy first: every declaration is reviewed before it is filed.
  • Clear cost estimates for duties, taxes and clearance fees before the goods arrive.
  • Local knowledge of Dubai's ports, airports, land borders and free zones.
  • Fast responses when customs raises a query, to keep storage charges low.
  • Experienced team. Part of a UAE logistics company established in 2004.

Common customs problems we solve

Unclear product descriptions

Customs needs to understand exactly what is in the box. Vague descriptions such as "parts" or "samples" lead to questions and delays, so we help you describe goods precisely.

Controlled and restricted goods

Many everyday products, from food supplements to wireless devices, need approval before import. We identify these early so the permit is ready when the cargo lands.

Valuation queries

If the declared value looks unusually low, customs may ask for proof of payment or price lists. We prepare these documents with you to avoid reassessment.

Mainland, free zone and re-export clearance

Where your goods are going decides how they are cleared. Goods entering the UAE mainland for local sale pay duty and VAT on import. Goods moving into a free zone can stay there with duty suspended, and only pay duty if they later enter the mainland. Goods that pass through the UAE to another country, which is common for traders using Dubai as a regional hub, can move under transit or re-export procedures without paying local duty. Choosing the right procedure from the start avoids paying duty you do not owe, or having to reclaim it later.

Industries and goods we clear

  • General merchandise and consumer goods
  • Food, beverages and agricultural products
  • Machinery, vehicles and spare parts
  • Electronics and telecom equipment
  • Chemicals and dangerous goods
  • Exhibition goods and personal effects

Customs Clearance & Brokerage: frequently asked questions

How long does customs clearance take in Dubai?

With complete and correct documents, many shipments are cleared within a day of arrival. Goods that need permits or are selected for inspection can take longer, which is why we check documents before the cargo arrives.

What is the customs duty rate in the UAE?

Most goods imported into the UAE attract customs duty of 5% of the CIF value, plus 5% VAT. Some goods are exempt and some carry higher rates, such as tobacco and alcohol. We confirm the exact rate for your products from their HS codes.

Do I need an import licence to bring goods into Dubai?

Commercial imports generally need an importer registered with customs, usually through a trade licence that allows importing. If you do not have one, ask us about options for clearing your shipment.

Can you clear goods that are already at the port or airport?

Yes. Send us the arrival notice and the shipping documents and we will start the clearance immediately, which also helps limit storage and demurrage charges.

What happens if customs inspects my shipment?

We arrange the inspection with customs, make sure the goods are available, and answer questions on your behalf. If anything needs correcting, we explain the options and handle the paperwork.
