Sea Freight in Dubai: FCL & LCL Shipping from the UAE
For large volumes and heavy goods, nothing beats the cost per kilo of moving cargo by ship. Our sea freight service in Dubai connects the UAE's ports, including Jebel Ali, with ports across Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas and the rest of the Gulf.
Whether you fill a whole container or only need a few cubic metres, we arrange FCL and LCL shipping from the UAE for traders, distributors, manufacturers and businesses that import stock regularly and want a predictable, well-managed supply line.
FCL or LCL: which is right for you?
Full Container Load (FCL)
With FCL, a container is reserved for your goods alone. It is sealed at loading and only opened by customs or at final delivery, which means less handling and a lower risk of damage. FCL usually becomes the better value once your cargo fills around half of a 20ft container or more.
Less than Container Load (LCL)
With LCL, your pallets or cartons share a container with other shippers' goods, and you pay only for the space you use, measured in cubic metres. It is ideal for smaller or first-time orders, regular top-up shipments, and businesses testing a new supplier or market.
What's included
- Container options: 20ft and 40ft dry containers, 40ft high cube, reefers for chilled and frozen goods, and flat rack or open top units for out-of-gauge cargo.
- Carrier selection across major shipping lines, balancing transit time, schedule reliability and price.
- Origin services: pickup, export packing, palletising, container stuffing and export clearance.
- Destination services: import clearance, port handling, container de-stuffing and delivery to your door.
- Documentation: bills of lading, certificates of origin and any permits your goods need.
- Shipment updates from booking to arrival, including vessel changes and port congestion alerts.
How our sea freight process works
- Tell us about the cargo: what it is, how much it weighs, its volume, and the ports or addresses at both ends.
- Choose your option: we recommend FCL or LCL and show sailings, transit times and an all-in price.
- Booking confirmation: we secure space with the carrier and send you a booking reference and cut-off dates.
- Collection and loading: your goods are collected and loaded into the container, or delivered to our consolidation partner for LCL.
- Export clearance and sailing: we file the declaration, issue the bill of lading and confirm departure.
- Arrival and delivery: we handle import formalities and deliver the cargo, or the full container, to its destination.

Planning your sea shipment
Sea freight rewards planning. Booking a week or two ahead gives you a better choice of sailings and helps avoid peak-season surcharges. Packing matters too: goods should be palletised and secured so they survive being lifted, stacked and moved several times at the port. For LCL, well-labelled cartons with your shipping marks on at least two sides make sure nothing is left behind at the consolidation warehouse.
It also helps to agree the Incoterm with your buyer or supplier before booking, so everyone knows who pays for each leg and who is responsible for insurance. If you are unsure, our guide to EXW, DAP and DDP services explains the most common options.

Sea Freight (FCL & LCL): frequently asked questions
What is the difference between FCL and LCL?
FCL (Full Container Load) means a whole container is used only for your cargo. LCL (Less than Container Load) means your goods share a container with other shippers and you pay for the cubic metres you use. FCL is faster and safer for larger volumes; LCL is more economical for smaller ones.
How long does sea freight from Dubai take?
Transit times depend on the route. Shipments within the Gulf and to the Indian subcontinent can take around a week, while Europe and the Americas often take several weeks. LCL adds a few days for consolidation and de-consolidation. Each quote includes the expected transit time.
How much cargo fits in a 20ft or 40ft container?
A 20ft container holds roughly 25 to 28 cubic metres, and a 40ft container roughly 55 to 58 cubic metres, depending on how the goods are packed. Weight limits also apply, so we check both before recommending a container size.
Can you handle customs clearance for sea shipments?
Yes. We arrange export clearance in the UAE and coordinate import clearance at the destination, so your goods are released and delivered without you having to deal with customs directly.
Do you ship refrigerated cargo by sea?
Yes. We book reefer containers for chilled and frozen goods and set the temperature to your instructions. Temperature records are available from the carrier for the whole voyage.
