Dangerous Goods (DG) Cargo Handling & Shipping in the UAE
Batteries, paints, perfumes, aerosols, chemicals and many industrial products are classed as dangerous goods. They can be shipped safely, but only when they are correctly classified, packed, labelled and declared. One mistake can mean rejected cargo, heavy fines or, worse, a safety incident.
Our dangerous goods shipping service in the UAE helps manufacturers, chemical distributors, oil and gas suppliers, cosmetics brands and electronics companies move hazardous cargo by air, sea and road in line with international regulations.
What's included in our DG cargo service
- Classification review: we check the safety data sheet (SDS) to confirm the UN number, hazard class, packing group and any special provisions.
- Mode and route selection: some goods are allowed on cargo aircraft only, some by sea only, and some carriers or countries add their own restrictions.
- UN-approved packaging and packing to the required standard, including inner packaging and absorbent materials where needed.
- Marking and labelling with the correct hazard labels, UN numbers and handling marks.
- Dangerous goods declarations: the Shipper's Declaration for air, the multimodal DG declaration for sea, and road transport documents.
- Booking and acceptance with airlines, shipping lines and hauliers that are approved to carry your class of goods.
- Storage coordination in suitable facilities when goods must wait before or after transport.
The rules we work to
Dangerous goods are regulated differently for each mode of transport:
- Air: the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, based on the ICAO Technical Instructions.
- Sea: the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code.
- Road: the ADR agreement and local requirements for transporting hazardous materials.
On top of these, the UAE and destination countries may require import permits for certain chemicals or controlled substances. We check these requirements before booking.
The nine classes of dangerous goods
All dangerous goods fall into one of nine classes: explosives (1), gases (2), flammable liquids (3), flammable solids (4), oxidisers and organic peroxides (5), toxic and infectious substances (6), radioactive material (7), corrosives (8), and miscellaneous dangerous goods such as lithium batteries and dry ice (9). The class decides how the goods are packed, labelled, stowed and separated from other cargo.
How DG shipping works
- Send the SDS. Share the safety data sheet, quantities and packaging details for each product.
- Compliance check. We confirm whether the goods can travel by your preferred mode and what packaging and documents are required.
- Quotation. You receive a price that includes DG surcharges, packing and documentation.
- Packing and labelling. Goods are packed and marked by trained staff, either at your site or at a packing facility.
- Declaration and booking. We prepare the DG declaration and present the cargo for carrier acceptance checks.
- Transport and delivery. The shipment travels under the right stowage and segregation rules, with updates until delivery.
Why choose Global Logistic Group for dangerous goods
Carriers reject DG shipments for the smallest errors, such as a missing label or a wrongly completed declaration, and each rejection means delay and extra cost. We prevent this by checking every detail before the cargo leaves your premises.
- Trained DG staff who prepare declarations and check packing. [PLACEHOLDER: DG training certifications held by staff, e.g. IATA DGR Category 1]
- Honest advice when a product cannot travel by a certain mode, and practical alternatives.
- All modes under one roof, so you can switch between air, sea and road as needed.
- Clear documentation you can keep for your own compliance records.
Limited quantities and excepted quantities
Not every hazardous product needs full dangerous goods treatment. Small amounts packed in suitable inner packaging, such as retail-sized bottles of paint or cosmetics, may qualify as "limited quantities" or "excepted quantities", with simpler labelling and lower costs. The limits depend on the substance, the mode of transport and the packaging. We check whether your products qualify, because getting this right can make shipping consumer goods noticeably cheaper.

DG Cargo Handling: frequently asked questions
How do I know if my product is a dangerous good?
Check the safety data sheet (SDS) from the manufacturer. Section 14, "Transport information", shows whether the product is regulated for transport and gives its UN number and hazard class. If you are unsure, send us the SDS and we will check it.
Can lithium batteries be shipped by air from the UAE?
Yes, in most cases, but the rules depend on the battery type, its watt-hour rating and whether it is packed alone, with equipment or inside equipment. Some batteries may only travel on cargo aircraft. We confirm the right way to ship them.
Why is dangerous goods shipping more expensive?
Carriers charge DG surcharges because the goods need special handling, stowage and checks, and there are costs for approved packaging, labels and declarations. These are included in our quotes so you see the full price.
Do you pack dangerous goods for shipment?
Yes. We can arrange packing in UN-approved packaging, with the correct labels and marks, by staff trained in dangerous goods handling.
Can dangerous goods be sent by courier?
Most courier networks accept only very limited dangerous goods, if any. Hazardous products are usually shipped as air, sea or road freight with a DG declaration, which we can arrange.
