Personal Effects Shipping from the UAE
When you leave the UAE, or send belongings to family overseas, airline baggage allowances rarely cover everything that matters. Our personal effects shipping service in the UAE sends your boxes, suitcases and household items abroad by sea or air, at a fraction of the cost of excess baggage fees.
It is used by expatriates returning home, students heading to university abroad, professionals on new assignments and anyone who needs to send personal belongings, rather than commercial goods, safely to another country.
What we can ship for you
- Boxes and suitcases of clothes, books, toys and kitchenware
- Household goods such as small furniture, appliances and electronics
- Excess baggage sent unaccompanied ahead of or after your flight
- Student shipments to universities and accommodation abroad
- Sports equipment and hobby items, such as bicycles and golf clubs
- Artwork and keepsakes, crated for extra protection
Sea or air: your options
Sea shipping (LCL)
For larger volumes, your belongings share a container with other shipments and you pay for the cubic metres you use. It is the most economical choice and suits moves where you can wait a few weeks for your things to arrive.
Air shipping
For smaller volumes or items you need quickly, air shipping delivers in days. It costs more per kilo, so it is best for a few boxes of essentials.
For a full household, a dedicated container through our packing, shifting and removals service is often the better solution.
What's included
- Collection from your home anywhere in the UAE
- Packing materials or professional packing on request
- An itemised packing list for customs
- Export documentation and customs clearance in the UAE

How personal effects shipping works
- Tell us what you are sending: the number of boxes or approximate volume, and the delivery address.
- Get your quote for sea and air, including what is covered at destination.
- Pack and list. Pack your items, or let our team do it, and prepare a simple list of contents.
- Collection. We collect from your home and check the packing and labels.
- Documents and departure. We prepare the paperwork, clear export customs and ship your goods.
- Arrival and delivery. Your belongings are cleared at destination and delivered to your door or ready for collection.
Customs rules for personal effects
Every country has its own rules for importing used personal belongings. Many allow returning residents to bring personal effects duty-free, provided the goods are used, are clearly for personal use and arrive within a set time of the owner. Most require a copy of the passport, a detailed packing list and sometimes proof of residence. New items, alcohol, medicines, food and electronics may be restricted or taxed. We explain the main requirements for your destination before you pack.

How to estimate the volume of your shipment
Sea shipping is priced by volume, so a rough estimate helps you compare options. A standard medium moving box is about 0.1 cubic metres, so ten medium boxes make roughly one cubic metre. A large suitcase is similar to one medium box. A single bed with mattress, a small sofa or a fridge each take up about one cubic metre or more. If you are unsure, send us a list or a few photos and we will estimate the volume for you, then confirm the final figure when we collect.
Packing tips
- Use strong double-walled boxes and do not overfill them; aim for boxes you can lift easily.
- Put heavy items at the bottom and fill gaps with clothing or paper.
- Write your name and destination on at least two sides of each box.
- Keep valuables, documents and medication in your hand luggage.
- Do not pack batteries, aerosols, perfumes or liquids without checking with us first.
Personal Effects Shipments: frequently asked questions
Is it cheaper to ship personal effects than to pay for excess baggage?
Usually yes, especially for more than a few boxes. Sea shipping in particular costs much less per kilo than airline excess baggage, although it takes longer.
Do I have to pay duty on my personal belongings?
It depends on the destination country and your circumstances. Many countries allow used personal effects to be imported duty-free for returning residents, while new goods may be taxed. We explain the rules for your destination.
What documents do I need to ship personal effects?
Typically a copy of your passport, a detailed packing list and, for some destinations, a visa or proof of residence. We tell you exactly what is needed for your shipment.
What items cannot be shipped?
Items such as weapons, illegal drugs, flammable liquids and aerosols cannot be shipped, and food, alcohol, medicines and some electronics may be restricted. Check with us before packing anything you are unsure about.
Can you collect from my home?
Yes. We collect from homes across all seven Emirates and can bring packing materials or pack for you.
